I am currently studying in the Barcelona Academy of Art as a third year student in the intensive drawing and painting program, from which I will graduate in December. During my studies I have had to pause my education several times to raise sufficient funds to continue the program. I am applying for the scholarship in hopes of financial aid for the fees of the current spring term, and following fall term.

After finishing my studies in the Academy I plan to dedicate my time pursuing a career as an independent artist, continuing to deepen my technical skills and the concepts behind my personal work. As well as developing my private practice, I have a strong desire to share the academic methods and knowledge that I have acquired, with others, especially in my home country of Finland which currently lacks the tradition of atelier education. This is a vision I am already working towards, through educating Finnish artists by providing workshops and courses.

I have found the atelier tradition to be extremely helpful in developing the complex techniques inherent to the style of figurative realism today, and I have gained so much from the structure of the program. Learning the traditional language of painting has given me greater clarity and skill to interpret the visual image from life, techniques which, as an educator, I believe would give other artists the possibility to expand their vocabulary in order to make fewer compromises in the execution of their ideas, concepts and work.
