At an early age he attracted attention by the better class of sensationalism in his art, although for a time his powerful brush dwelled with particular delight on scenes of bloodshed, such as the \u003Cu\u003EMurder in the Seraglio\u003C/u\u003E (1868) and the \u003Cu\u003EDeath of Ravara\u003C/u\u003E, \u003Cu\u003EQueen of Lanka\u003C/u\u003E at the Toulouse Museum. The \u003Ca href=\u0022http://www.collectluxembourg.com/museum/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022 class=\u0022link\u0022\u003ELuxembourg\u003C/a\u003E has his \u003Cu\u003ECain flying before Jehovah\u0027s Curse\u003C/u\u003E; and for the Maine of the fourth arrondissement of Paris he executed in \u003Cem\u003Egrisaille\u003C/em\u003E a series of Panels: \u003Cu\u003EBirth\u003C/u\u003E, \u003Cu\u003EDeath\u003C/u\u003E, \u003Cu\u003EMarriage\u003C/u\u003E, \u003Cu\u003EWar\u003C/u\u003E, \u0026c. \u003Cu\u003EA Chief\u0027s Funeral\u003C/u\u003E, and pictures having the Stone Age for their subject, ocupied him for several years.
