He was probably a pupil of Albert Ouwater, and may be called the \u003Ca href=\u0022/asp/database/art.asp?aid=1022\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022 class=\u0022link\u0022\u003EBreughel\u003C/a\u003E of the 15th century, for he devoted himself to the invention of bizarre types, diableries, and scenes of the kind generally associated with Breughel, whose art is to a great extent based on Bosch\u0027s. He was a satirist much in advance of his time, and one of the most original and ingenious artists of the 15th century. He exercised great influence on \u003Ca href=\u0022http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/cranach_the_elder_lucas.html\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022 class=\u0022link\u0022\u003ELucas Cranach\u003C/a\u003E, who frequently copied his paintings. His works were much admired in Spain, especially by \u003Ca href=\u0022http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/12002a.htm\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022 class=\u0022link\u0022\u003EPhilip II\u003C/a\u003E, at whose court Bosch painted for some time. One of his chief works is the \u003Cu\u003ELast Judgment\u003C/u\u003E at the Berlin gallery, which also owns a little \u003Cu\u003ESt Jerome in the Desert\u003C/u\u003E. The \u003Cu\u003EFall of the Rebellious Angels\u003C/u\u003E and the \u003Cu\u003ESt Anthony\u003C/u\u003E triptych are in the Brussels museum, and two important triptychs are at the Munich gallery.
