Rosemarie Christina Armstrong

Rosemarie is a painter of landscapes and seascapes; her paintings convey the constant transformation of the natural world. Her skilled and purposeful technique results in a multi-dimensional, illuminated quality of atmosphere, earth and water. The creative process begins in nature; plein air studies, sketches, photographs and memories which provide the foundation for studio work. In order to witness and paint nature's reality, Rosemarie explores Canada's majestic and often remote locations.

Rosemarie has been painting for four decades. Her paintings reflect her artistic soul and her professional calibre. She believes that through artists, people can envision the best of our world and the human spirit. Creativity in all its forms, can draw attention to world issues; climate, environment, change inflicted by progress. Artists can engage others in conversation about environmental issues through their artistic images.

There is an abundance of atmospheric, often turbulent images in many of Rosemarie’s works. She explores the illumination which follows darkness, and the darkness that precedes light. This epochal shift in her work is a commentary on the state of our environment. She is strongly influenced by great masters such as J.W.M. Turner, Ilya Repin, and Winslow Homer.

Rosemarie's artistic journey began in early childhood, influenced by both parents. Her mother Helga was a talented oil painter born in Czechslovakia and trained as a colorist for fabrics in Oberkotzau, Germany. It was a lifelong exposure to her mother`s creative process that set the foundation for Rosemarie`s own artistic journey. As a teen, Rosemarie loved to illustrate people and wildlife. Recognizing her daughter’s talent, Helga signed Rosemarie up with a local art group at age fifteen and enrolled her in figure drawing and sculpture classes.

Her father emigrated from Switzerland in the early 1950's and built a decorating business. Rosemarie utilized her artistic talents to illustrate the curriculum.

Rosemarie has traveled through many European countries.
