His first picture at the \u003Ca href=\u0022http://www.bartleby.com/65/sa/Salon.html\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022 class=\u0022link\u0022\u003ESalon\u003C/a\u003E, in 1866, was a large historical composition of the \u003Cu\u003EWarsaw Massacres on April 8, 1861\u003C/u\u003E. In the following year his \u003Cu\u003EOld Women in the Place Navone, Rome\u003C/u\u003E was bought for the Luxembourg Museum, as was also the \u003Cu\u003ELast Day of Corinth\u003C/u\u003E in 1870. In 1880 he painted a ceiling for the Luxembourg, representing \u003Cu\u003EThe Glorification of French Sculpture\u003C/u\u003E. Tony Robert-Fleury became president of the Societe des Artistes Francais in succession to \u003Ca href=\u0022/asp/database/art.asp?aid=7\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022 class=\u0022link\u0022\u003EBouguereau\u003C/a\u003E.
