LOOKING OUT TO PALACE GREEN STREET, oil on canvas, 18 x 24 in.

This painting represents a view looking out from the Robert Carter House on Palace Green Street at the moment that a horse-drawn carriage with passengers is driving past and not long after a light rain has ended.  The bright light and shadows cast in the foreground and the slightly wet pavement of the street surface are very typical of what follows a light rain in Colonial Williamsburg.

This painting was selected as the artwork to illustrate the official poster of the 2009 ‘An Occasion for the Arts’, the juried open-air arts festival which draws both local artists and many from a number of other states and which takes place annually in the Fall in the greater area surrounding Merchants Square in downtown Colonial Williamsburg.
