Cossacks Attacking a squad of the Gardes d'honneur from the Jeune Garde Imperiale

Damien Bartoli kindly informs that "[d]espite the appearance, the scene was NOT [set] in Russia but during the Campagne de France in 1814." The information we had earlier received, that the attacking force were the Garde Royale, was apparently "a great mistake".
