Focus in this piece is on the placement and proportion of warm and cool colors, and creating a center of interest at the source of light in the painting. Patterns also played a significant role, especially the contrast between those in the pier pilings and in the water.
I saw the sun sinking into the ocean, between the pilings of the San Clemente pier. I described my favorite time of day with a complementary palette, horizontal lines to convey a sense of stability and peace, and the play of light centrally streaming through the composition.
