Brazil Museum Fire
Published on September 4, 2018
The National Museum of Brazil, a 200 year old institution and the largest museum in Brazil, has been tragically destroyed in a fire last Sunday night.
Although the extent of the damage is unknown, an estimated 90% of the 20 million artifacts contained in the museum are thought to be destroyed, including the oldest human remains ever found in Brazil, Andean mummies, ancient Egyptian artifacts, and indigenous artifacts from the pre-Colombian period.
