Devotion and Fantasy, Witchcraft, and the World's End
Published on December 22, 2020
This selection of paintings and prints from a major private Charleston collection of Northern Renaissance art introduces a world of intensely, and sometimes disturbingly, vivid imagery. Created in the Low Countries and Germany between 1440 and 1590, these images reflected the fears, desires and hopes of the turbulent time period of the Northern Renaissance and Reformation.
The exhibition is on view at the Gibbes Museum of Art, 135 Meeting St, Charleston, SC 29401 from October 9, 2020 - June 27, 2021.
