Figurativas '15 Competition Results

At the MEAM (European Museum of Modern Art), the jury of the Figurativas'15 recently judged the finalist paintings of the competition of the Foundation de les Arts i els Artistes, a contest in which 2,459 artists participated from around the world. | |
The winner of the First Prize for Painting is Manuel Castillero Ramirez’s work, The Day in which the Silence Reigned in Congress. The piece, considered by the jury very critical with the current political situation, shows a chamber completely destroyed, abandoned and overrun by nature. Beyond excellent pictorial technique, the work conveys a sense of degradation and obsolescence political power. The jury of the 8th Contest of Painting and Sculpture figurative 2015, comprised of noted personalities from the world of contemporary art like Odd Nerdrum, Antonio Lopez, Richard Estes, painters Lita Cabellut, Daniel Graves, the gallery owners Leandro Navarro and Santiago Sanchez, critical Art Tomas Paredes and Jose Manuel Infiesta, director of the Foundation of the Arts and MEAM, has also recognized the work of six artists with Honorable Mentions: Fausto Martin (Glance from Inside), Charles Villeneuve (Rive Gauche) Wim Heldens (Cats & Dogs), Jorge-Abbad Jaime de Aragon Cordoba (Seated Woman), Jamie Routley (The world pulses beats beyond my door) and Jan Mikulka (In the Park). The live exhibition for this competition will be mounted at the MEAM at the same time the live version of the ARC Salon will be mounted there. The official awards ceremony of ARC Salon and Figurativas 2015 winners will take place as one tremendous event on November 20th, 2015 at 19:00 hours at the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona and a Forum of American and European representational artists will take place the following day on Saturday the 21st. |
