USD 525

Vosler Young Artists' Studio
330 Pauls Drive, Brandon, FL 33594

This workshop focuses on a practical approach to drawing the leg and foot, areas often overlooked but essential for a grounded and believable figure. Students will learn to navigate the complex rhythms of the lower limbs & feet through a blend of anatomical study and observational practice.

The Curriculum

Structural Anatomy: We will conduct an in-depth study of the skeletal landmarks and major muscle groups of the leg and foot, providing a foundation for understanding movement and weight distribution.
Cast Drawing & Spatial Orientation: By drawing from plaster casts, students will learn to orient the complex forms of the foot in three-dimensional space without the distraction of shifting light or movement.
Old Master Analysis: Students will examine how the Old Masters simplified the anatomical masses of the leg and foot to create a sense of elegance, strength, and clarity in their drawings.
Observational Life Drawing: The week culminates in drawing from the live model, allowing students to apply their anatomical knowledge to a living, breathing subject.
Instructional Features
Daily Demonstrations: Kerry will provide daily demonstrations, illustrating how to break down the leg and foot into manageable, expressive forms.
Painting Opportunity: In the final stage of the workshop, students have the option to transition from drawing to painting from the live model to explore color and light.
