 In traditional art education, sample pictures were used that the student had to copy. Charles Bargue developed his “Cours de dessin” in collaboration with Jean-Lėon Gérôme in 1886-1871. The course consisted of a series of lithographs of schematic and detailed drawings of plaster casts of statues.

The Bargue course was very popular in its day, but has since been forgotten. A few enthusiasts, including Daniel Graves founder and director of the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, have rediscovered the Bargue method.

In September 2022 I will give a workshop in the AdA studio in Vissingy France. For two weeks I will guide you in drawing one or more Bargue drawings.

Vissingy is a hamlet situated in the magnificent Parc Naturel Naturel Régional du Morvan in the Nièvre department of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in central France. It is an exceptional rural setting, The students will enjoy total immersion in art and nature, taking daily inspiration from the space and silence of the surrounding countryside. They will experience nature first hand and the wild beauty of the landscape.

During the workshop you have access to the studio all day long. Instruction is in the morning hours from 9 to 12 o'clock. Joke Frima adapts her supervision to the individual possibilities and wishes of the students if possible.

September 12/23 €600 (one week €350)  Stay overnight on location? 200 euros per week 300 for 2 weeks, single bedrooms. There is a kitchen at your disposal, where you can prepare your own meals.
