Old Cortez, one of west coast Florida's last rustic fishing villages, is a favorite place of mine to paint, sketch, or simply search for inspiration. This scene was captured on a cold, sunny day at the A P Bell Fish Company one December. Several large boats had just arrived early in the morning from their week-long fishing trip in the Gulf, so the loading docks were busy and loud. Warehouse facilities were full of sorted fish crates ready to be moved to the iced storage unit. It was a big catch! I managed to capture the fleeting moment when sunlight shone on an open crate of large fish, set briefly on the dock's wet floor.
