ARC Master, Paul McCormack will be teaching a 5 Day Watercolor Workshop at ARC Appoved™ Atelier,LAAFA-the Los Angelos Academy of Figurative Art in Van Nuys, California.
5 Days: Thur-Mon, April 17-21, 2008 10am - 5pm "Take this opportunity to learn from nationally recognized portrait artist, Paul W. McCormack. Students will be working from a live model as Paul demonstrates all the techniques and principles needed to execute a watercolor portrait with a luminous glow. With demonstrations and lectures given each day students are taken through a step-by-step procedure…watch, listen, learn, and then apply. Combined with individual attention, critiques and hands on instruction (with permission of the student), students will have the opportunity to create a finished portrait under Paul’s guidance. For the exacting realism found in Paul’s work, most of day one will focus primarily on the drawing aspect of the portrait. With instruction on the proper use of angles, plumb lines and relative measurement, students will learn how to acquire correct proportions in order to achieve a likeness of the model. As the course continues, this intensive 5-day workshop will then focus on painting. Lectures will include basic color theory, how to see and execute correct value relations, proper treatment of edges, and so much more. Demonstrations in watercolor techniques will include wet into wet, glazing, and Paul’s signature dry brush technique. Beginners and advanced students alike will certainly benefit from the experience."

The prospectus for the 2008 ARC Scholarship Competition is now available.
Deadline is June 18, 2008
$30,000 in grants are available this year.

Students of painting and sculpture will submit examples of paintings and sculpture rendered from life and representative of nature as reflected in figurative studies and compositions, landscapes, still lives, and portraits -- work that that seeks to capture a fully recognizable likeness of the model.
Scholarships are awarded solely on the basis of merit. There is no application fee.

Girl with a Lantern, by Han Wu Shen, the Great Contemporary Realist and ARC Master , will be offered at the Contemporary Arts of Asia Auction at
Sotheby's New York this month.

Having sold at the Hong Kong Auctions in 2005, 2006 and 2007 at ever increasing prices, this is the first American auction for Mr. Shen.

Shen's work has been compared to the great Chinese Realist, Wang Yidong, who now sells for as high as $1,000,000 per canvas.

Han Wu Shen's work is seen as an incredible opportunity, as the value of his paintings has an unlimited potential right now.
