ARC has recently posted an article by international author and lecturer Alexandra York titled "The Fourth "R" in Education; Reading, WRiting, ARithmetic and ARt". The article demonstrates the vital role art education plays in helping to shape children into responsible, well-rounded and moral adults.
"...we begin to see the vital importance of art education, the invigorating and reinforcing spiral of experience inherent in learning the various art forms. Back and forth, from real life to art, from art form to art form and back to real life, the senses, the intellect and the emotions flow together, charging each other along the way with images, sounds, and ideas. ModPortrait Exhibition

This year, the ModPortrait contest award ceremony and beginning exhibition will take place at the Pablo Serrano Museum of Zaragoza located on Paseo Maria Agustin 20, Zaragoza, Catalonia from May 30 - June 17, 2017. The exhibition will then move to the MEAM museum from June 22 to July 29, 2018. Among the exhibiting artists will be ARC Associate Living MasterTM John Boe Paulsen.

OPA 27th Annual National Juried Exhibition of Traditional Oils

OPA 27th Annual National Juried Exhibition of Traditional Oils is one of the finest display of reprsentational oil paintings. The jurying process strives to select paintings that show the highest quality of draftsmanship, color, and composition, emphasizing a diversity in representational style and subject matter.
ARC Living MastersTM John Buxton and John Pototschnik will be among the artists participating.
The exhibition will be at the Steamboat Art Museum, 807 Lincoln Ave, Steamboat Springs, CO 80487 from June 1 - Sept. 3. There will be demos, discussions, and lectures as well.

Classical Art Exhibition

ARC Living MastersTM Virgil Elliot and Joke Frima and ARC Associate Living MasterTM Gezien van de Riet are participating in the Classical Art exhibition associated with the TRAC2018 Conference in Zaailand, Leeuwarden, Netherlands.
The exhibition runs from May 1 - June 24, 2018 at the Frisian Gallery' on the first floor in the shopping center of Zaailand, Leeuwarden (directly behind the Frisian museum).

Painted in Mexico - 1700-1790 - Pinxit Mexici

The vitality and inventiveness of artists in eighteenth-century New Spain (Mexico) is the focus of this exhibition, which presents some 110 works of art (primarily paintings), many of which are unpublished and newly restored. The exhibition surveys the most important artists and stylistic developments of the period and highlights the emergence of new pictorial genres and subjects. It is the first major exhibition devoted to this neglected topic.
The exhibition is held at the Metropolitan Musuem of Art located on 1000 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10028 and runs from April 24 - July 22, 2018.

Florence Academy of Art US Lectures

ARC ApprovedSM Florence Academy of Art, US will be hosting two lectures that are free and open to the public.
The first lecture given by Peter Trippi takes place on May 18, 2018 at 5 PM. The lecture is titled "Stagestruck: Theatricality in Late Victorian Art".
The second lecture titled "A Triumphant Triad, Sargent, Sorolla and Zorn" given by Neill Slaughter will take place on May 25, 2018 at 5 PM.
The lectures are being held at Florence Academy of Art US, 888 Newark Avenue, FL 3, Jersey City, NJ 07306.

Donato Arts Open Studio

ARC Living MasterTM Donato Giancola will be holding an open studio on Saturday, May 19, 2018 10 am - 6 pm at Donato Arts located on 397 Pacific Street, Brooklyn, NY 11217.
Scores of works, new and old will be on view and two exhibition rooms will be filled with drawings and paintings inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth.
Special discounts on giclee prints, books, DVDs, drawings, and oil paintings will be offered. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

In the Studios of the Old Masters

Taught by the founders of the Edinburgh Atelier of Fine Art, Scotland, instructors Ewan McNaughton and Lea Vaughn take students through the stages of painting in the tradition of the old masters in this five day workshop.
Working from a selected study, students learn the specific step-by-step process to achieve an exact copy, as well as gain a clear understanding of the principles of oil painting and the best techniques and materials to use.
The workshop runs from 6/18-6/22/18 at the Gage Academy, 1501 10th Ave E, Seattle, WA 98102.

Barcelona Academy of Art Workshop: Giorgos Rorris

Giorgos Rorris was born in Kosmas, Arcadia Kinourias in 1963. He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Panagiotis Tetsis and Yiannis Valavanidis. He continued his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Leonardo Cremonini.
For more than 35 years, Giorgos has centred his work on the human figure placed in decrepit, seemingly abandoned and unsettling interiors. Unapologetic female nudes and powerful portraits form Rorris’ influential body of work.
During five days, the students will dive into the craft of painting by the hands of one of Greece’s most important representational artist. Presenting his influences and inspirations Giorgos will expand on the tools and solutions he uses in his own work, guiding and encouraging students to find their personal creative expression.
The 5 day workshop runs from July 16-20, 2018 at BAA Poblenou, 34, Carrer de la Ciutat de Granada, Barcelona, Spain.

60th Stockton Art League Juried Exhibition

Americans in Paris

Opening Saturday, May 12th, 2018 from 5-8pm at Arcadia Contemporary Los Angeles, California 9428 Washington Blvd, Culver City CA 90232.
A group of fifteen American representational artists have created a new collection of work for a bi continental exhibition this May of 2018, based on their travels to France last year. Among the exhibiting artists are ARC Living Masters Julio Reyes, Joshua LaRock and Jeremy Lipking.
The show will then move to Galerie L’Oeil du Prince, Paris, France on May 24, 2018.

We are expecting the catalog in stock and ready to ship by November 10th of 2018.
This year the ARC Salon Catalog will be co-published this year by ACC Art Books (formerly Antique Collector's Club), who are introducing it as a new addition to their line of fine art books. This will mean that the ARC Salon Catalog will receive wide spread distribution both nationally and internationally in book stores and the like through their distribution network.

Plein Air South

ARC Associate Living Master™ Roger Dale Brown will be the Keynote Speaker at Plein Air South in 2018.
This event was designed to build community and share knowledge among the plein air painters across the Southeastern region, but the reach of the organization is much further.
Plein Air South takes place from May 14-17, 2018 in Port St. Joe, Florida. There will be 4 days of presentations, demonstrations, instruction, vendor exhibition, and outdoor painting events.

New ARC Approved™ Atelier

Rees Atelier is a large facility located just outside of downtown Mesa, Arizona. With its 16 foot ceilings, large group working space, student lounge, and numerous student studio spaces, it is a comfortable working environment to learn.
Classes are broken down into Full Time (Apprenticeship) Program and Part Time (The Academy) Program. While the content of each generally overlap, the primary difference is the number of instructed working hours for full time students (30+) versus part time (6) per week. Remote study is also available, as students can purchase the video/textbook content from the Academy Program and opt for remote critiques.

The Florence Academy of Art U.S. (FAA) is excited to present ‘On Paper, An exhibition of Drawings’, held at the FAA U.S.’s Mana Contemporary location. This exhibition opens on Sunday, April 29th and coincides with Mana Contemporary’s open house. FAA’s exhibit will showcase a selection of drawings by over thirty of today’s leading figurative artists.

Birds in Art

Organized by The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin, this exhibition presents a juried collection of 60 outstanding contemporary artistic interpretations of birds and related subject matter. More than 60 artists have created original paintings, sculptures, and graphics for inclusion in this 42nd annual exhibition.
ARC Associate Living Master™ Laurence Saunois will be exhibiting her painting "Esperanto" in this traveling exhibition.
The show will be on display at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford, CT 06903, from February 24 – May 28, 2018. It will then be on display at the Cumming Nature Center, Rochester Museum & Science Center, in Naples, New York from June 16 – August 13, 2018.

Percival Portrait Prize

Since 2007, the biennial Percival Portrait Painting Prize is an open competition for Australian artists.
The competition showcases the outstanding and innovative work currently being produced by Australian artists, and has given many emerging artists an opportunity to engage with portraiture and share their expressions of themselves and those close to them.
ARC Associate Living Master ™ Vicki Sullivan is among the exhibiting artists.

Summer Drawing Scholarship Competition

New this year, the “Summer Drawing Scholarship Competition” offers an opportunity for young fine art students and practicing artists to apply for a space in the Barnes Atelier summer drawing course for free. Aimed at current or recently graduated art students and young artists aged 16 - 25 years, the top winning entry will be offered free enrolment in the four week intensive program July 30 - August 24, 2018. The winning student will be fully immersed into the drawing curriculum at the Barnes Atelier and see first hand what it’s like to work in a professional academic environment taking courses in Drawing Fundamentals, Drawing From The Plaster Cast, Drawing The Portrait From Life, and Drawing The Nude Model From Life. Four additional entrants will be chosen to win tuition-free study in one of the 1-week aforementioned drawing courses. Deadline June 30, 2018
