Pippa Chapman

I was born and raised in Australia and have lived overseas in the UK, France and Oman for many years. I now reside back in my home country of Australia where I live and work as a full-time professional artist. I have been painting for over thirty-five years and professionally full-time for twenty five years. In that time I have had much international success, winning many awards, collaborating with many galleries, been published with UK publishing houses and worked with multiple charities providing works for charitable auctions and fundraising. I have also been an in-residence and demonstrating artist at many events. I continue my career as an international multi-award winning artist who travels regularly between Europe and Australia, painting, studying and exhibiting my work in various galleries and exhibitions.

I began as a self-taught artist, painting a wide variety of subjects from wildlife to portraits using different mediums before settling on oil painting. I have always been inspired by the great European Masters from the Early Renaissance to the 19th Century European Academies and my work is influenced by these styles. I spent many years studying, researching and experimenting with these techniques, painting directly from life using the sight-size methodology in my studio in Australia and the UK.

For the last fifteen years, I have had a continuous course of studies in Florence, Italy, specifically targeting these methods, and further enhancing the knowledge already gained through my own research. I have completed many courses at the Angel Art Academy and have had tuition with the Maestro Michael John Angel, in order to continue to grow and learn.

My paintings take many months of patience and dedicated hard work to produce, with the aim of producing work of quality that brings ongoing pleasure to patrons for years to come. I try to imbue a sense of peace and tranquility in my work with a minimalist approach, without losing the strength of colour or the drama of light.

I have been privileged enough to win many international awards including: 'Best Oil in Show' and 'Finest Brushwork in Show' at London's prestigious Mall Galleries; finalist in the UK 'Not The Turner Prize'; People's Choice award; the 'Best Realist Art Award' among others at Australia's largest exhibition of realist art, The Camberwell Art Show; Melbourne; Art Renewal Centre's International Salon finalist; finalist in Australia's Mortimer Prize; Cover of Horse and Hound magazine, UK; Art Excellence awards, Melbourne; and many other 'Best in Show' prizes and society awards.
